In each chapter, there are multiple ways to finish. There may be items that can help your character in certain situations, but they are not necessarily required to progress. Decisions such as giving items to certain characters, reading journal entries and visiting certain locations over others can impact the plot. Each chapter has one correct outcome that moves the story, but there are also multiple mistake conclusions that result in the character's death and the appearance of a "wrong end" pop-up. The randomized structure of each floor means no two play sessions are exactly alike. Although the path may be different, there are still a few familiar stops along the way. Most common are the enemies. If you're lucky, flies and lava will be the most of your troubles, but most likely, your move-and-shoot abilities will be tested by flaming, headless torsos or blood-vomiting gluttons. As you progress these enemies will evolve and learn new tricks to maintain the challenge. If you have a few keys handy, then you can access the item shops and special item rooms located on each floor. In lieu of gaining levels, Isaac's power increases by collecting items, which can increase his stats or confer special abilities. Like a theme park designed specifically for children, Go Vacation may look appealing to adults. The open-world setting makes each play session more flexible than the disjointed minigame parade of other similar games, and the ability to do it all with friends is attractive. But once you set foot inside this kiddie playland, it becomes clear that it's all very shallow and simplistic because Go Vacation's minigames don't reach the enjoyable heights of their forebears. The simplicity and cheery visuals make the game well suited for playing with kids, and you'll probably get a kick out of seeing them get a kick out of the action. If that's what you're looking for, then Go Vacation is worth the price of admission. Also annoying is the amount of grinding you have to do in World Tour mode. Each event you win adds to your team's overall score, which gives you a place on a global leaderboard. Unfortunately, even at an early stage many championship events call for a high ranking, meaning you have to spend inordinate amounts of time repeating events just to gain points for your team and increase your level. You can increase the individual difficulty of each event from bronze through to gold to earn more points, but then they may prove difficult for you to win at all. You are at least given better rewards at gold level, with branded tops for your team on offer, while bronze usually nets you a shameful-looking pair of socks. The maps are well designed, with plenty of open areas and cramped corridors. The controls are responsive, and your agent moves about the battlefield at a pace that suggests he or she is actually inhabiting the world and not just gliding through it. You have enough health to withstand a few hits before you go down, but a single shot to the head means lights out, so you always feel vulnerable. Sprinting down hallways in pursuit of human quarry is exhilarating, and taking down a distant foe with a sniper rifle is as satisfying as you'd expect. And that's the problem; it

Some offer enough effects and image-processing tools to almost qualify as Photoshop stand-ins. Others focus more on making it as easy as possible to sort and keep track of your snapshots and other digital images. That's the approach taken by 1avcapture Photo Manager. While it offers basic image-editing tools, its real mission is to offer maximum organizational capability; it gives you numerous ways to sort, file, and annotate your photos, as well as some interesting extras like free 1avcapture and 1avcapture plug-ins and a unique Send-to-Mobile feature for sending images to your cell phone. Speaking of sofa spuds, 1avcapture is designed to be easy to install and set up, even for those lacking the nerd gene. To use PlayOn, you need a broadband Internet connection in addition to the gear. The developer strongly recommends wired connections (such as Ethernet) to avoid streaming interruptions, but home networks are getting faster and more reliable all the time, so it's an option. You'll also need to make sure your antivirus and other security software is set up to allow 1avcapture to function. And function it does. Using your console's familiar interface, 1avcapture finds all accessible devices and content and displays it in an easy-to-use menu. As you might guess, watching Net video on your TV is fun. This free RSS client's gorgeous Finder-styled interface, speedy operation, and user-friendly interface make it a joy to sift through loads of news feeds. NewsMac is a model citizen when it comes to its design and layout, thanks to the clean exterior and familiar toolbar. NewsMac comes loaded with a healthy grab bag of news freeds already configured, but adding your own custom channels also is very easy. We appreciate that NewsMac lets you sync news articles with your iPod or Palm-based PDA. We wished, however, that you could view articles from directly within the application, rather than having to switch to a Web browser. Overall, NewsMac is an elegant and worthy newsreader for both pros and newbies. FastestFox (formerly SmarterFox) is one of the more powerful add-ons to enhance Firefox browsing. It displays a clean-looking bubble filled with customizable search engine shortcuts when you highlight a word or phrase. Type a query into the Firefox address bar, and 1avcapture will offer up suggestions as you type. It will also place alternative search engine icons on a results page (like Google, Yahoo, and Bing), and will repeat smaller version of those icons on Wikipedia pages, along with a list of related articles. To open a new Web page faster, there's the qLauncher. One hot-key combo brings it up; tapping a single keyboard key opens Facebook, the New York Times, and whatever else you program in.
